Meetings This Week, June 7-11

     TEMOAK TRIBE – A list of meetings scheduled for this week.
     -Elko Band Council will meet on Monday, June 7 at the Elko Band adminstration building beginning at 3:00 p.m.
     -Elko Band Council will meet on Wednesday, June 9 at the Elko Band adminstration building beginning at 6:00 p.m.
     -Te-Moak Tribal Council will meet in a closed meeting on Thursday, June 10 at the TMHA offices beginning at 6:00 p.m.
     -South Fork Band Council will meet in a closed meeting on Friday, June 11 at the South Fork administration building at 6:00 pm

     ELKO COUNTY - TheStreet.com has the article Gold Prices Break $1,250, Now What? which reports "Gold prices set a record high Tuesday as investors scrambled to buy the precious metal and risk appetite diminished."

Elders Seek Funding For Shoshone Reunion

     ELKO BAND - Elders of Elko Band are having a Indian Taco and Bake Sale on Saturday, June 12, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to raise funds to attend the 2010 Shoshone Reunion being held at Fort Duchesne, Utah.  The Sale will be at the Shoshone Welcome Center, 1530 Silver Eagle Drive, Elko, NV.

Elko County Primary Voting Today

     ELKO COUNTY - The Elko Daily Free Press has the article Clerk estimates 38-40 percent voter turnout which begins "Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today for the Nevada primary, and Elko County Clerk Win Smith said she is estimating a turnout of between 38 and 40 percent."

Questions About 2007 Te-Moak Proclamation

     TEMOAK TRIBE – In 2007, the Te-Moak Tribe issued a “Proclamation for the Record” on the issue of claims signed by Chairman Davis Gonzales. In the proclamation, Gonzales writes “I do not wish to continue an on-going negative atmosphere or debate amongst our people who deserve and have the right to a peaceful existence, I hereby affix my signature on this Proclamation on this 12th day of March, 2007.”
     Although the Duck Valley Tribe, Duckwater Shoshone Tribe, Ely Shoshone Tribe, and Fallon-Paiute Shoshone Tribe issued official Tribal Council resolutions concerning the important subject of Shoshone claims, the reason as to why the Te-Moak Tribe issued a proclamation rather than a Tribal Council resolution is unknown at this time. Further the proclamation seems to be a document of the Tribe, but the question remains as to why the proclamation is not part of the official record of the Tribe.

Western Shoshone Claims Faces Possible Lawsuit

     TEMOAK TRIBE - The Indian Law Resource Center has the article Timbisha Shoshone Tribe to file lawsuit to stop Act of Congress in its 2010 Issue 2 which begins "The Timbisha Shoshone Tribe will file a lawsuit in June to stop an Act of Congress that threatens to take a fund of money belonging to the Tribe and other Western Shoshone tribes."
     As of this date, no lawsuit has be filed.

Job Announcement: In-Home Health Aide

     SOUTH FORK BAND – The South Fork Band Council has posted a job announcement for the position of In-Home Health Aide.
     The In-Home Health Aide position is located at the South Fork Indian Reservation and the salary for the position is $8.00 to $10.00 per hour, depending on experience.  The closing date for applications is June 14.

Tribal Council Members Visits Alaska

     TEMOAK TRIBE - KDGL Radio has the news story "Shoshone Leaders Meet Alaskan Native Leaders To Talk About Open Pit Mining" in which Te-Moak Tribal Council member Larson Bill discusses how the mines use money to divide the Tribe.  Bill uses the example that the mines "had one Band sign a paper that said go ahead and mine, and (the mines) took it like everybody said okay."  He states that these tactics pit families against each other.

Ruby Pipeline To Start in June or July

     TEMOAK TRIBE - The Elko Daily Free Press has the article El Paso hopes to start pipeline in late June which begins "El Paso Corp. expects to begin construction of the Ruby Pipeline in late June or early July, despite the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's decision this week to allow extra time to study rehearing requests."

BIA To Conduct Two Claims Meetings

     TEMOAK TRIBE - The Nevada Appeal has the notice Western Shoshone judgment fund meetings slated which reports "The Bureau of Indian Affairs is conducting two public meetings for the purpose of updating the Western Shoshone identifiable groups on the status of the judgment fund distribution project."

Gov. Gibbons Issues Letter to Forest Service

     TEMOAK TRIBE - The Las Vegas TSG Business News has the article Gibbons says – Federal government must work with Elko and White Pine counties before closing roads which reported yesterday "Governor Jim Gibbons today sent a letter to the U.S. Forest Service regarding its proposed plan to potentially close miles of roads in Elko and White Pine counties in Northern Nevada."

US Forest Service Meeting Brings Out Critics

     TEMOAK TRIBE - The Elko Daily Free Press has the article Forest plan has few fans: Locals voice opinions on travel study which begins "Two dozen people came to the U.S. Forest Service's meeting Tuesday on the draft Travel Management Plan for forest land in Elko County, and those who spoke up were highly critical of the plan."

     TEMOAK TRIBE - The Te-Moak Tribal Council will hold a meeting tonight at 6:00 p.m. at the Te-Moak Diabetes Center.

U.S. Forest Public Meeting on Travel Management Plan DEIS

     ELKO COUNTY - The U.S. Forest Service will hold a public meeting tonight at 6:00 p.m. at the Elko Convention Center.
     The meeting is being held to discuss and answer questions about the draft environmental impact statement released early last month on the Travel Management plan. The draft study covers the Elko County area of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.
